Alexi was born in 1994 to her mother, Shell McCammond, and journalist father, and she’s got two siblings, a brother Braxton and sister Aubyn. She was born in Chicago, and most of her formative years were spent playing in the suburbs of Chicago and getting her education in Guilford High School.

Though she is now a magnificent reporter, reporting news and holding a mic to talk about politics was not her first career choice. When she was younger, Alexi wanted to be a doctor, but being a doctor takes a lot of monetary resources. It is extremely expensive to join a medical school, and her family was experiencing money problems during the time, and she dropped her desire to be a doctor.

After she finished high school, she applied for a scholarship in three different universities, namely Yale, Brown, and the University of Chicago. She was given a full ride by the University of Chicago, an amount totaling $60,000 for her four years of education was written off, and she got a full ride to study Sociology, Romance Languages & Literature.

The offer to study at the University of Chicago was a blessing from God, and she took full advantage presented in front of her. After four years of education, she graduated and started on her journey to become a trustworthy journalist.

Working for Bustle, Contributing on MSNBC and Getting Hired by Axios

Soon after she was out of college, the Alexi joined Cosmopolitan as a freelance political writer, which instead lead her to a job with the leading women digital company Bustle, where she worked for a couple of months in 2016. She was the person who covered the presidential election for Bustle, and after the election was over, she left the digital magazine and joined the rising company Axios.

Axios is a new/documentary show which is currently on HBO and was also recently renewed for a second season. Only a few months after she joined Axios, Alexi was promoted to deputy political editor, and soon, she was the political reporter for the digital news portal. She will also be reporting on the 2020 presidential election in the second season of Axios.
