Rachel Oniga is Dead at 64: The Beloved Actress Passed Away from a Heart-Related Ailment!
Nigerian films like Super Story and Sango's star, Rachel Oniga, is no more. The actress passed away on 30th July, aged 64. Oniga's son, Olatunji, has confirmed the devastating news to Punch. “She passed last night around 10pm. She had malaria and typhoid,” he told the publication.
Many publications alleged that the actress had died of covid-related complications. Her son has set the records straight and denied the reports. As per several sources, Oniga was in the Mowe area filming Kunle Afolayan's upcoming movie. Considered one of the most sought actresses of Nollywood, Rachel's sudden death has left many bereaving.

Her colleagues have taken to their social media pages and have reflected on their time with the late actress. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko described Oniga as "a great professional colleague, a sister, and a friend." He wrote, "I never thought I would be saying a painful goodbye to you at this time. "The great times we had working together are still fresh in my mind," concluded Jide.

Veteran actress Joke Silva, and Desmond Elliot, also paid their tributes. Oniga's family has asked for privacy amid these trying times. They have promised to announce Rachel's burial ceremony in due time. The late star's sister, Deaconess Toyin Odusote, wrote, "Painful as it may, we accept it in good faith and total submission to her maker."
Oniga's latest major movie was My Village People.

Oniga was divorced and is survived by three children and several grandchildren. Born on 23 May 1957, Rachel ventured into acting at 36. In her career, which was over 23 years, she worked in several hits like The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, 30 Days in Atlanta, Passion of Mind, and Power of Sin. Her last major movie was in comedian Bovi Ugboma's My Village People.
