Steve Kornacki filled in for the host, and the reason for the talk show host, not boing there, was because of health problems. To start the show, Steve said, “Before we go tonight, Chris hasn’t been here the last few nights, and he wanted to let you know why. Chris is recovering from prostate cancer surgery last week.”
So What Happened to Chris Matthews?
The exact medical details of the issue are still kept under wraps, but know for certain it was prostate cancer and Chris went in for a surgery to get it prostate glands removed. This was a unique case considering the fact most men are not asked to get a prostate cancer screening, which is set at 70 years old.
Chris’ cancer was caught and he was taken to the hospital where the doctors performed a surgery. The whole thing is done by robots, and the surgery is thought to be a little invasive, but still, the procedure and the surgery is a big one. The operation was said to be successful, and MSNBC twitter wrote, “I know he’s looking forward to getting back very soon,” a quote from the latest 'Hardball.'
The thing is the host of the talk show will not be able to get back soon. It takes a while to recover from the surgery, and he needs to monitor to see if the cancer was only located in the prostate and did not move towards other organs.
Prostate cancer is not a common occurrence in men, but the Cancer Association still maintains men above 55, and below 70 should get regular cancer screening. It seems Chris’ cancer was caught early, and even though there is not much fear when it comes to cancer spreading and growing, it is still cancer, and Matthew opted to get the surgery.
How is Chris Doing Now?
Chris is not going to be back on his show for the next few weeks. It takes about 5-8 weeks to recovers from the mildly invasive surgery. Chris will most probably not be back on the show for over two months, which is for his own health.
The last time Chris was on the TV screens was on 4 October 2019, and he’s been out ever since. The host will probably return to his show around the holiday period or maybe even in 2020.
