Emily Tarver: Actress, Comedian, and Musician with a Dynamic Range

Emily Tarver is a multi-talented American actress, comedian, and musician born in Houston, Texas. She is widely recognized for her appearances in a variety of TV series and films, such as Orange Is the New Black and Sisters, apart from being covered in several national commercials. 

She is also a musician, performing with the band Summer and Eve. The career pattern of Tarver reflects her talent, adaptability, and commitment to her profession.

The Early Days: Comedy Roots and Training

Emily Tarver initiated her journey into the world of entertainment through the comedy scene back in 2004. She studied and then went on to perform with the Upright Citizens Brigade NY Theatre, one of the premier institutions that showcases comedic talent.

It is here that she studied all different types of comedy, including stand-up, improv, sketch, and musical comedy. This foundational training was to prepare her diverse and successful career in the entertainment industry.

Breaking Into TV and Film: Notable Roles

Tarver has left her mark in both television and film. To this date, her most highly acclaimed character was that of CO Artesian McCullough in the hit series Orange Is the New Black, a character she portrayed from 2016 to 2019. She was exemplary in the show due to her weird mix of humor and dominance. 

She was also one of the cast members of VH1's Best Week Ever from 2013-2014, where her quick wit and comedic prowess shone. In 2015, she was also part of the USA series Donny! And as Lindsey in ABC's Black-ish. In film, her credits include the role of Brayla in the 2015 film Sisters wherein Variety gave special mention of her for the said film.

The Commercial Spotlight: National Ads and Controversy

In addition to her work in television and film, Tarver has been a recognizable face in many different national commercials. She has worked for the likes of Havertys Furniture, Lowe's, Comcast, Publix, AT&T, and Yoplait, to name a few. 

One of her numerous Yoplait commercials brought attention, though, in a wholly unexpected way when it was pulled from broadcast due to complaints from the National Eating Disorders Association focusing on the fine balance between advertising and social responsibility.

Musical Talents: Summer and Eve

Aside from her acting career, Tarver is a singer. She performs with the band Summer and Eve, bringing out her musical capabilities and furthering her artistic range in the musical field.

Speaking of her personal life, Emily Tarver has never been ashamed of her relationships. In July 2018, it was confirmed that she is in a relationship with her co-star from Orange Is the New Black Vicci Martinez.

She does so much more than act and sing. She has written and produced projects of her own, proving she is a multi-talented individual. She was able to create and write the TV series Above Average Presents.
