England Qualify for the Knockout Stage of the Euro 2020

England have succeeded in reaching the last 16 of the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020.

England finish their group stage at the top of Group D in the 2020 UEFA European Championship. This way, they have solidified their place in the knockout stage of the competition. They beat the Czech Republic and garnered 7 points to attain this position.

Croatia finished second after knocking Scotland out of the completion by beating them 3-1. The Czech Republic are third in the group despite having the same points (4) and the same goal difference (1). Croatia scored more goals (4) than the Czech Republic (3) to attain second place.

The Czech Republic lost 0-1 to England as Raheem Sterling scored a close-range heading goal from a cross by Jack Grealish in the 12th minute of the match. And that goal proved crucial for England to top the group and also gain confidence after the previous disappointing performance against Scotland.

Unfortunately for Scotland, they missed their chance to go to the last 16 due to the loss against Croatia. They had hoped, though, when Callum McGregor equalized Nikola Vlasic’s opener in the first half.

The second half proved difficult for Scotland when Luka Modric scored a jaw-dropping goal in the 62nd minute and put Croatia back in front. The game was put to bed after Ivan Perisic’s (heading) goal with 13 minutes remaining.
