Juventus Defeated Atalanta To Lift The Coppa Italia

The Old Lady got their revenge against rivals in an epic final night.

Juventus won the Coppa Italia after putting on an impressive display to get the victory over Atalanta. The match played at Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, Italy, ended on 2-1 in favor of Bianconeri. It is Italy's most successful club's 14th Coppa Italia trophy; the most than any other club.

Atalanta who has impressed everyone in the past few seasons pressured Juventus from the beginning of the game. Juve was struggling to keep hold of Atalanta forwards; Zapata caused trouble for the Juve defenders as both DeLigt and Chiellini struggled to contain the Colombian in the first half.

Despite the La Dea controlling the match in the first half an hour, it was men in white and black who drew the first blood as Dejan Kulusevski curled a beautiful shot inside the net after receiving the pass from Weston McKennie. Juve was in lead against the run of play but not for long.

Atalanta kept pressing and showed their resilience and equalized only ten minutes later. Ruslan Malinovskiy received the ball from Hans Hateboer and hammered it past Gianluigi Buffon in the net.

In the second half, Juve seemed like a different team than the first half and improved defensively and in the attacking. Finally, Federico Chiesa whose shot came off the post in the 60th minute received a pass from Kulusevski and slotted inside the bottom-left corner through the legs of Atalanta keeper Pierluigi Gollini.

The last time the two met in this competition was two years ago in the quarterfinals in 2019. In that game, Atalanta came out on top against the 30 times Serie A champions as they humiliated Juve with a 3-0 scoreline.

The win is something of a much-needed boost for Andrea Pirlo who has been criticized a lot in the recent months after exiting early in the Champions League and unable to retain the Scudetto. Pirlo's men currently lie in the fifth position in the Serie A table and are at the risk of not playing the Champions League next season.

With the last league match scheduled to be played on Saturday Juventus will play 11th place, Bologna, away. The Zebras need not only win the match at the same time pray that either Napoli or AC Milan will drop points in their respective matches.
