Lucy Alexis Liu is an actress best known for playing Alex Munday in Charlie's Angels. Liu's earliest credits include Rhythm, L.A Law, and Pearl. Liu, 53, was born on December 2, 1968, in Jackson Heights, Queens. Now an actress-turned-director and producer, Lucy recalls her dream of becoming an actor from a young age.  

Since rising to stardom with Charlie's Angels, alongside Drew Berrymore, and Cameron Diaz, Liu has starred in at least 54 successful flicks and remains one of the most prominent representatives of Asian-American actors in the business. After spending almost three decades in front of the camera, the 53-year-old recently took her repertoire behind as well. Lucy made her directing debut with the series Elementary.

Lucy Liu has had tough luck in her personal life, and ardent fans would know it. At 53, the Charlie's Angels star remains a single parent to one. Liu is a doting mother to her son Rockwell, born via gestational surgery in 2015. Liu usually keeps the men in her out of the spotlight, but there have been plenty of rumors over the years. The actress and George Clooney were rumored to be in item for most of 2000, but no official confirmation was ever issued by any party.

Liu and Clooney were caught by paparazzi sharing a steamy New Year`s Eve kiss in 2006, followed by a few more PDA-packed public appearances. Clooney, who is now married to Amal Clooney, was going through a fast dating phase, and hence it is no surprise that Liu was counted as one of Clooney's many flings.  

After Liu and Clooney's rumor-fuelled and steamy affair, the pair moved on with other people anyway. George didn't waste time jumping on in a relationship with Bridget Jones actress Renee Zellweger, and Lucy found a partner for herself in Ally McBeal.

After her low-key romance with McBeal, Liu dated Zach Helm, which became her best-known relationship. The couple announced their engagement in 2004 but eventually parted ways. She said she doesn't want to settle for anything else in 'InStyle' magazine. She said that love should be like lightning, and it happens almost immediately for her. The former twosome was engaged for five months and dated each other for two years after getting together in 2002.

The multiple Emmy-nominated actress has often been rumored to be bisexual. And believe it or not, the speculations started from Liu's comments. The actress once hinted at her sexuality. "Everybody wants to label people. Sometimes you just fall in love with somebody and you're really not thinking about what gender or whatever they happened to be," said the actress.

A native of Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, Liu grew up in a diverse neighborhood. Youngest of three children born to Cecilia, who worked as a Biochemist, and Tom Liu, a trained civil engineer, Liu's dream differed from her academic parents, who wanted their daughter following their footsteps. Liu kept her parents' aspirations by getting a degree in Asian languages and culture instead of arts and juggled her dream on the side.

Liu learned to speak Mandarin at home and started to study English when she was five. When she was young, she studied the martial art Kali-eskrima-silat as a hobby. She attended Joseph Pulitzer Middle School, and after completing her studies in school, she graduated from Stuyvesant High School. Later, she applied to New York University and transferred to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Lucy Liu has an estimated net worth of $16 million. Her estimated salary per episode is approximated around $130 thousand. Her successful career has earned her various awards and accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award, Critics' Choice, MTV Award, and more. 

At the age of 19, Liu was discovered by an agent while traveling on the subway. She did one commercial. She gave auditioned in 1989 for the University of Michigan's production of Alice in Wonderland during her senior year of college, and although she tried for a supporting part, Liu ended up landing the lead role.

The big break came for Lucy when she signed to star in Charlie's Angels. Aside from being a stellar actress, Liu has also garnered the reputation of a fervent philanthropist. She was the spokeswoman for the Lee National Denim Day charity event in 2001, which raises money for breast cancer research and education. Liu was selected as an ambassador for U.S. Fund for UNICEF in 2004.  

The Kill Bill star received an Asian Excellence Award for Visibility in early 2006. In 2008, she produced and narrated the short film The Road to Traffik, about the Cambodian author and human rights advocate Somaly Mam. The film was co-produced by photographer Norman Jean Roy and directed by Kerry Girvin.
