Best known for her leading role as the writer Laura Ingalls Wilder in the historical drama Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert is an actor, director, producer, politician, and most notably, the former president of the Screen Actors Guild. During the successful run of the NBC series, Gilbert starred in many television shows, including The Diary of Anne Frank and The Miracle Worker, and steadily rose to become one of the most-sought tv stars of the time.  

Melissa Ellen Gilbert was born on May 8, 1964, in Los Angeles, California. Given up for adoption by her newly-engaged and naive parents, Melissa found a family in late actor Paul Gilbert and his wife Barbara Crane's household. While living a whirlwind childhood at her adoptive home, Gilbert found stability and comfort in front of the camera. Gilbert kicked off her acting career as a child star, appearing in commercials and landed the coveted role of Laura in 1973.

Aside from her successful career in television, which has currently taken a back seat in her life, Melissa is also well known for her turbulent marital life. The Little House on the Prairie star has been married thrice and is currently committed to her third husband, Timothy Busfield.

Although Melissa had recently called it quits with her second husband and had a kid from her previous marriage, the actress's third marriage with Busfield was a charm. For the 58-year-old actress, Timothy is more than a husband; Gilbert considers Busfield to be her "soulmate" and "the one." "I have never been more content, more cherished or happier," Gilbert once said about her marriage with Busfield.

Busfield, 64, is a native of Lansing, Michigan, and is as big a star as his renowned wife. Busfield is an actor and director, best known for his Emmy-winning role as Elliot Weston on the ABC series, Thirtysomething. Busfield's other credits include Trapper John, M.D, A Few Good Men, Little Big League, and Without a Trace.

Gilbert and Timothy first crossed each other paths at a bar in the early 2010s. "I sort of talked to myself for a moment, and then I went in, sat at the bar and ordered a drink," Busfield recalled in an interview, adding, "Then I saw Melissa’s smile and I was gone." Just like Gibert, Timothy has also been married twice before and shares three kids with his two ex-wives.

Busfield and Gilbert got engaged in January 2013 and walked down the aisle on April 24. Although the pair don't share any children and their offspring from their previous relationships have now turned to become independent adults, Gilbert and Busfield couldn't be any happier in their longstanding marriage. The Little House on the Prairie star says she is living her ultimate dream with Busfield. The duo resides in their run-down mountainside cabin, raising chickens, horse and their own food.

Before finding a soulmate and lifelong comrade in her husband Busfield, Gilbert was married to actor Bruce Boxleitner, best known for his role in How the West Was Won, Bring 'Em Back Alive, Scarecrow and Mrs. King. Bruce was Melissa had worked as a teenager in Battle of the Network Stars, during which Melissa developed a crush on Bruce.

After reconnecting, the pair dated on and off for a year and even got engaged twice in the process. Gilbert and Boxleitner tied the knots on January 1, 1995, and welcomed their son Michael Garrett Boxleitner in October 1995. The couple called it quits after 16 years of marriage in 2011, citing "irreconcilable differences."

Gilbert's first husband was actor Bo Brinkman. The pair were married from February 1998 to 1992. They welcomed a son, Dakota Paul Brinkman, during the period. In her memoir, Prairie Tale, Gilbert describes her relationship with Brinkman as "fueled by alcohol, insecurity, and the unfamiliarity of two people who barely knew each other trying to merge their lives and work."
