One of the most recognizable faces in the world of sports broadcasting of the modern age, Kate Abdo, made her now-illustrious career, from the ground up. She worked all over Europe for different language channels and appeared in the best games of the years doing on-field reporting and interviewing the prominent players.

Kate was born on 8 September 1981 in Manchester, England, where she spent the early parts of her life living and loving the team Manchester United. She is the youngest of two children of her parents, and all lived in Manchester, where Kate’s love for football and sports as a whole grew significantly.

After her initial education was done, the sports broadcaster moved to Germany, where she worked for Deutsche Welle in the English language editorial section, but then she started getting a hosting job in both German and English language broadcasts. Kate’s education was a BA in European Languages, Translation, and Interpreting, which is where she learned to speak multiple languages. She worked in a German television network where she spoke German and English during the broadcasts. All in all, the sports broadcaster became fluent in four languages, her mother tongue English, and the other she learned later on in life, German, Spanish, and French.

The sportscaster prowess in multiple languages is the reason why she is hired to host international award functions because she can then speak to the people present in the language they are most comfortable with. 4. Love of Sports from an Early Age

Abdo fell in love with sports from an early age. She grew up in Manchester, where her father, brother, and her, were fans of Manchester United Football Club. The tide of turning for the club by the time she was in her pre-teens, and soon the club would win the first British and European treble, which cemented her love for the club even more.

But the thing was, her mother was an avid Liverpool fan, which is a big no-no for Manchester fans. This also helped her know the difference in ideology and love for the club you support the most. All of this helped Kate gather as much information as she could, and then it was also fated for her to be a sports journalist.

3. She Worked for CNN, Sky Sports and Fox Sports

While the German network was her first brush with the sports industry. Kate was hired by CNN to give an update on sports in and host the World Sports segment for the channel. She was responsible for the channel’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2010, and then in 2011, she moved to Sky Sports, where she became the face of the News program.

After she was hired by the main channel Sky Sports in 2013, she moved back to England, and she hosted everything for the channel, from football to boxing and in 2015 while working on loan to Fox Sports for the Women’s World Cup she stayed with Fox Sports and left Sky Sports.

Kate’s original name was Kate Giles, but she changed it to Kate Abdo after marrying her husband, Ramtin Abdo. She met Ramtin while her time in Germany, where he works as a real-estate developer. The couple got married in 2010 and are together ever since. They’ve been married for almost a decade now, but there is still no sign of a little bundle of joy in their lives.

Kate’s been on the main stage of the award ceremony for Ballon d’Or on multiple occasions, three to be exact. She hosted the ceremony where the best player of the world was awarded the golden football. While hosting the show, she’s been able to interview the biggest names in the world of soccer. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, to name a few, were interviewed by the talented and beautiful host.
