The Olympic skier was born on 3 December 1975 in Newburg, New York, to his parents, who were supporters of his career earlier in his life. After the athlete completed his education in high school, he moved to St. Lawrence University for higher education, where after four years, he graduated in 2001.

Thomas was not able to make a mark for his country on the international stage, but while skiing, he met his first wife and fell in love. He also helped her out in those days to get her to focus on the race and not worry about her deteriorating relationship with her father. The couple got married about a year later.

The couple exchanged their vows, but the honeymoon was postponed because she was getting ready for the World Cup.

The couple moved in together in the new home they build together in Park City, Utah. He was a stockbroker, and he also managed his wife after the marriage. Lindsey also found a high level of success after her marriage, but the relationship between the two did not last long after he filed for divorce in November of 2011. After four years of marriage, the couple was separated, and the divorce was finalized on 9 January 2013.
