Avatar 2 producer sheds light on the new plot details of the upcoming movie.
The most successful movie in history had to wait over a decade to get a sequel, but then again, that's what you would expect from a filmmaker who's more involved in expanding the limits of his art than in making money, which he's got shiploads of anyway. In the meantime, it's really just our misfortune that, as soon as work on Avatar 2 actually got underway, a once-in-a-lifetime global health catastrophe hoarded the spotlight out of nowhere.
But, COVID-19 or not, Avatar 2 is going nowhere, and its producer, Jon Landau, just revealed some intriguing new details about the project. iIn a new interview with RNZ, Cameron's long-standing business associate opened up about the difficulties his project is encountering so far, and when he plans to return to New Zealand to start filming.

“We feel very comfortable because of the actions of your government and also the responsibility the people took to really curb the virus there. So we feel we’re coming back to the safest place in the world possible thanks to a team of people that we’ve worked with. We believe we have a very thoughtful, detailed and diligent safety plan that will keep everybody as safe as possible in these unprecedented times.”
While much acknowledged, these little chunks of safety measures – which Landau, as an executive producer, is obliged to offer to any press person he has spoken to these days – are just an appetizer of the film storyline, which he has been able to say the following:
This is the story of the Sully family and what one does to keep their family together. Jake and Neytiri have a family in this movie, they are forced to leave their home, they go out and explore the different regions of Pandora, including spending quite a bit of time on the water, around the water, in the water.
While the first section of his description may sound like the setup of an alien comedy rather than one of the most action-packed, heart-stopping thrill journeys ever filmed, it points out the kind of tension that one might hope to see in the new chapter of Jake Sully's vision.

Having rescued Pandora and welcomed his alien shell, the retired marine now faces the overwhelming challenge of creating a future for himself. Since Landau refers to the main cast of characters as a "family," it seems like Jake and Neytiri are going to have a baby.
For whatever reason, nurturing appears to have been a common theme in blockbusters over the years, with films and games re-imagining the rugged, lonely protagonists of the early 2000's as softer dads. However, it remains to be seen that Jake would pursue a similar route in Avatar 2.
