Chelsea Reportedly Reaches an Agreement to Sign the Bayern Munich Defender

Reports last night suggest that Chelsea have reached an agreement to get their first summer signing for experienced Bayern Munich center-back, Jerome Boateng.

After a lackluster January transfer window, English Premier League giants Chelsea FC are pushing to sign a new defender to the club and have 'agreed' a deal with Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

Well, the new summer target for the West-London side is both a Champions League and a World Cup winner, and he could be the another German at the Blue Camp following the club's new arrivals in Timo Werner and Kai Havertz

The Bayern Munich defender hasn't been a regular at his current camp recently after many years of loyal service, and Thomas Tuchel's revamped English side might be keen to have his experience in their backline.

Chelsea, who recently beat Sheffield United courtesy of Jorginho and Mason Mount's goals, did face a setback from a defending howler from their current German center-back, Antonio Rudiger's own-goal.

The English side might have strengthened one half of the backline by signing the Brazilian center-half, Thiago Silva, last summer, but the former PSG skipper is facing some fitness and injury crisis on his own. That might probably be the reason why Tuchel might be vying for the signature who will celebrate his 33rd birthday in September 2021.

Jerome Boateng's contract is all set to expire with his current club, Bayern Munich, this July, and the English giants might just be the perfect fit. The world-cup winner does have the experience of playing in Britain as the 32-year-old played a year for Manchester City after signing with them in June 2010.

The German center-half was on the losing end when Chelsea faced Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final at Allianz Arena, which led West London to win their maiden Champions League title.

As per the latest reports close to, Chelsea has reached an 'agreement' with Jerome Boateng's agent, and it might just be a matter of time before it gets official.

The results might have been better for the past few weeks under new manager Thomas Tuchel, but he would realize the defensive shortcomings of his squad, especially in the absence of Thiago Silva.

The Bayern Munich player is now free to negotiate a transfer deal with other clubs on pre-contract, and it looks like Chelsea is on top of the lot right now.

The Chelsea followers might not be the happiest following this transfer story as Jerome is already in his thirties and past his peak. However, the experience he brings to this young squad might be pivotal for the club's ambition to be a major threat for the opponents yet again.
