His father, Robert Pine, is an actor who co-starred on CHiPs as Sergeant Joseph Getraer, and his mother, Gwynne Gilford, is a former actress who later became a psychotherapist. 

Chris went to the Oakwood School for high school. Then he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2002 with a B.A. in English. When Chris got to Berkeley, he was first scared of looking for a place to fit in and had difficulty making friends. He was not interested in joining a fraternity—That's why he got into theater. As a UC Berkeley Theater Department member, Chris performed in a Caryl Churchill play at La Val's Subterranean Theater and performed Orestes and Shakespeare at Zellerbach Hall. 

Chris has been in a relationship with Annabelle Wallis, a British actress, since 2018. Annabelle is an English actress who is famous for her roles as Jane Seymour in Showtime's period drama The Tudors (2009–2010), Grace Burgess in the BBC drama Peaky Blinders (2013–2019), Mia Form in the supernatural horror film Annabelle (2014), and many more. But now they have ended their relationship after four years of togetherness.

The Wonder Woman actor, Chris Pine, and the Annabelle actress, Annabelle Wallis, first flashed romance rumors in March 2018. The pair then confirmed their relationship months later. They kept a low profile, and the two had often been seen on walks in New York and Los Angeles. They spent time self-isolating together during the COVID-19 pandemic as well.

According to multiple platforms, the couple has broken up after four years of togetherness. The actual reason for their breakup has not been revealed yet.
