Comedian Leslie Jones is Leaving SNL After Five Season; Here's Everything You Need to Know

Leslie Jones is leaving SNL after 5-years!

One of the best cast-members of SNL, Leslie has announced her departure from one of the longest-running shows.

The main reason for her departure is that the towering comedian faced a lot of schedule conflicts because of her several upcoming projects.

Leslie Jones recently lent her voice in the movie Angry Birds 2. Moreover, she has got her hands full with a number of projects coming her way. She will be playing a role in Eddie Murphy's "Coming To America" sequel and is all set to work in her own Netflix special. She will shoot her special on September 10th at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.

A source close to Leslie told Page Six, “Leslie has chosen to depart as she has several upcoming projects in the works — and she thought it was the right time to go.”

On the other hand, SNL will be gaining a former member as Kate McKinnon is all ready to make her comeback soon.

NBC initially hired Leslie as a writer, and she used to make several appearances on "Weekend Update." She landed her first full-time gig in 2014.

Furthermore, Jones also became part of the main SNL cast in December 2013 after the sketch series faced criticism due to its lack of minority faces. Fellow comedian, Sasheer Zamata landed the gig, but she left in 2017.

Ever since becoming a fully-fledged of the SNL cast, Leslie was known for his audacious and open-minded view on the various issues surrounding throughout the country.

When the Alabama state passed one of the most restrictive abortion legislation, she made an apperance in the Weekend Update alongside Colin Jost & Michael Che whilst wearing a 'Handmaid's Tale' outfit.

She then said that her name is OfJost and proclaimed they are all handmaids. She then removed her red robe and revealed a black outfit in which it was written, "Mine" along with a point facing south.

She also made fun of the 25 Alabama state senators who allegedly passed the bill, and hillariously stated their pictures as mugshots of everyone arrested at a massage parlor.

In addition, leading up to leaving the show, she went out with a bang after announcing her departure on the show by giving an astounding speech.
