Disney is Moving Forward with Ridley Scott Directed 'The Last Duel' Starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck
Disney is greenlighting The Last Duel and putting a award season release date on the movie.
Movie business is a precarious situation, long gestation periods, developmental hell, lack of interest from the public, all leads to the ending of a project. But what is happening to the 20th Century Fox projects after the purchase of the company by Disney is something we’ve rarely seen before.
Merger or buy-outs is not something new to the world of entertainment but the amount Disney paid to get control of 20th Century Fox is something unique. The purchase got all the Marvel characters in the Fox stable under the Disney umbrella. But it also caused other projects in development at Fox to be stuck in limbo.

The team at Disney is taking a look at every project currently in production at Fox and when others are still getting a stern look, 'The Last Duel' is getting a release date and a greenlight from the mouse house.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are coming together to star in the movie for the first time since the 90s when the two won an Oscar for the movie 'Good Will Hunting.' The two high school friends wrote 'Good Will Hunting' together and received an Oscar for writing the movie.

Since the success of their first movie together, the two rarely starred together in a movie, limiting their time together to supporting cast and one full length movie in 'Dogma.' Other than those times, the two successful actors never worked together let alone write a movie in the presence of one another.
Well, it is all about to change for the two because for the first time the duo wrote a script together and it was for the book adaptation of 'The Last Duel.' Every other project of Ben and Matt was put on hold so they could finish the script and it was supposedly moving fast at Fox and even Ridley Scott jumped on board to direct the movie.

It seems Disney is also feeling the potential of the movie based in the 14th Century France when the last government sanctioned duel was held. Two friends go at each other for the treachery of other and both the knights’ life changes forever.
Disney is placing a lot of faith in the talent behind and in front of the camera which is why they put the movie smack dab in the middle of the award season on 25 December 2020. Christmas legs are always better than any part of the year which is as long as the quality of the product is good, it is a win-win scenario for the studio.
