Eddie Murphy Is Returning To Saturday Night Live As A Performer After 35 Years

Finally, Eddie Murphy set to host SNL for the first time since 1984!

Eddie Murphy is one of the funniest people on planet earth, but we are biased when it comes to Eddie. We are probably the only people on earth who left 10/10 ratings on IMDb for ‘A Thousand Words,’ which is by no means a good movie, but we love Eddie. All the 'Beverly Hills Cops' movies, we love them to death, but the thing we love the most about Eddie is his stand-up and his time on SNL.

The man was a laughing riot machine; there was nothing he couldn’t make fun of and for almost five years the comedic genius, someone most of the comics of our generation idolize, worked on SNL. While the ratings were down and the show was on the verge of closing, on came Eddie and the SNL we still get to watch was because of the great actor and comedian. Just ask Chris Rock, and he will tell you how the man saved the whole show and allowed him to pursue a career in comedy instead of becoming a UPS driver.

After hosting the show two times in 82 and 84, finally, Eddie will be back as the host of the show for the first time in 35 years when SNL returns for its 45th season without Leslie Jones who left the show this year. This is a dream come true for all of his fans, the fact Eddie the comedic maestro is all set to appear in the show. Eddie was in Toronto promoting his movie ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ and showing it during the Toronto International Film Festival when he talked to the Los Angeles Times and said, “I’m excited to go back.”

“I had the feeling you would have if you were going back to your old high school,” the actor continued. It feels like the actor is happy to be back on the show, which helped him become the celebrity he is today. The talent Eddie is means he would’ve made it into Hollywood and the movie industry, somewhere along with his career but no one will deny SNL helped put the spotlight on the actor as much as he helped the show back on its feet in the early 80s.

We said Murphy is coming back to the show after 35 years, by the statement we mean he is coming back to perform for the first time in the said time. Eddie was a guest during the show’s 40th anniversary in 2105 when only former hosts and cast members in the legendary Studio 8H. Chris Rock introduced Eddie Murphy, and he took the stage with all the audience and the band getting on their feet to give a standing ovation to an all-time great.

So, after years of being away from the show, Eddie is back, and the fact he is hosting an episode provides him with “those feelings of, ‘Wow this is a big part of who I am, and this is where I came from.’ And I feel a kinship to everybody who’s ever done that show. I’m looking forward to going back.”

Eddie is among a great lineup of celebrity hosts coming for the 45th season of the beloved series with Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, David Harbour and Kristen Stewart among the known celebrities on hosting duties during the first four episodes of the series. Season 45 is currently on schedule to air on 28 September 2019 with Eddie hosting the episode right before Christmas on 21 December 2019.
