Jan Oblak Named La Liga Player of the Season

The Atletico Madrid goal stopper has been awarded the Spanish league player of the season.

Jan Oblak has been named the La Liga Player of the Season award for his performance in the season 2020/21. He edged the likes of Real Madrid's Karim Benzema, Barcelona's Lionel Messi, and his teammate Luis Suarez to claim the award.

The 28-year-old was instrumental in helping Atletico Madrid win their first La Liga trophy in seven years.

The former Benfica payer maintains yet another season with an impressive record, which he has been doing for the past few years at Wanda Metropolitano. Oblak played all 38 games for the Colchoneros, conceding only 25 goals in the campaign's entirety, which was the least number of goals by any goalkeeper in the league. He kept a total of 18 clean sheets and made 103 saves in the recently concluded campaign.

The Slovenian International became the fastest goalkeeper to get 100 clean sheets in La Liga history, achieving that feat in only 222 appearances. Moreover, he is also the first non-Spanish goalkeeper to keep 100 clean sheets in La Liga History. 

In recent weeks, he has been linked with English club Manchester United and French side PSG.
