J.J. Abrams Teases the Return of a Beloved Character in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
A beloved character from Star Wars cannon is being teased by J.J. Abrams for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
We are less than a week from the release of 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' and the cast and the director of the movie are hard at work promoting the film. There was a time when people said there is no need to market 'Star Wars' movies beyond the trailers and TV spots, but considering how the series been received over the last two years, every bit of goodwill helps.
'Star Wars' movies are not what they used to be before 2015, once upon a time, 'Star Wars' movies were a rarity, something people needed to make up in their head so as to not keep the age-old story going. But the over-saturation of the market over the last four years resulted in the fans feeling a little burnt in the way beloved characters were handled and the constant onslaught of movies Disney kept peddling the audience’s way.

But at the end of the day, 'Star Wars' is still epic, and no matter how angry the fans were with the last two movies, they will still come to watch the finale, the epic ending to a saga which spanned over four decades. 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' is said to be the last one dealing with the 'Skywalker' clan, and it seems the movie will be of epic proportions.
The movie will be here in four days’ time, and 'J.J. Abrams' is giving the fans every reason not to miss the flick, and one of them was revealed during his most recent interview. The director was asked who his favorite character in the 'Star Wars' Universe was, and the director said, 'Han Solo.' He then flipped the question to the interviewer, who was confident in his choice of 'Ashoka.'

Not a bad choice at all, to the answer J.J. said, “Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well, then you’ll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker.” The director is definitely not saying Ashoka will be there, but what could be the point of saying “better watch closely,” other than the fact there is going to be some reference to the character in the movie.
For people who are not familiar with canon characters of Star Wars, 'Ahsoka' is the padawan of the 'Anakin Skywalker,' and the character is only found in the animated movie and the 'Clone Wars' TV series. She also appears sparingly in the Disney XD series 'Rebels,' where after finding out for the first time 'Darth Vader' is 'Anakin Skywalker,' she goes to battle with her master.

The character was not heard from since then, and every effort to find her was unsuccessful, cannon materials also try to stay away from the character. But it seems there will be some kind of call back to the character in the final 'Skywalker' saga movie. 'Anakin' was the place where the whole story began in the first place, the burden of the father was carried by the son, and the grandfather’s legacy is what keeps 'Kylo Ren' going, even though he doesn’t know 'Darth Vader' turned good by the end.
It is going to be interesting how they incorporate all these elements in one comprehensive and conclusive series, but we are really excited to see how J.J., a man who admittedly is bad at finishing stories, finishes one of the most cherished franchises in the world. We know one character in C3PO will be getting his share of due in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is set for 20 December 2019 release.
