The only goal of the final game in Rio de Janeiro came from Angel Di Maria, who chipped the ball into the back of the net from the right-wing position. The 22nd-minute goal turned out to be the decisive winning goal for the Argentina national football team.
The most significant achievement was for the Barcelona star Messi, who has only one title that was not in his trophy cabinet: an international cup. Following the disheartening loss in the 2014 World Cup final against Germany and the previous two Copa America final losses in 2015 and 2016, it meant so much for one of the greats of the game.

In addition to winning the cup, Messi also became the tournament’s joint-top goalscorer with four goals, leveling with Luis Diaz of Colombia. He was also elected as a joint best player along with his former teammate Neymar.
The Copa America win for Argentina levels them with Uruguay as the all-time leading winners of the competition with 15 Copa America titles.
