Oscar Winner Taika Waititi Separates from Wife Chelsea Winstanley
Oscar winner Taika Waititi splits from wife of nearly a decade, Chelsea Winstanley.
Taika Waititi, the 2020 Oscar winner, in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay for 'Jojo Rabbit,' has separated from his wife, movie producer Chelsea Winstanley.
The couple first met two decades ago when Chelsea interviewed Taiki while she was working on a documentary about Maori artists.
They worked together again a decade later when Waititi wrote and directed a comedy-drama film 'Boy' (2010) while Winstanley served as an assistant production coordinator.

Reports of the separation initially surfaced after they were not pictured together in award shows, most notably even after working on the critically acclaimed 'Jojo Rabbit' (2019), at the January Golden Globes. In fact, the only shot they were seen together in the award ceremony was a group one, sparking further speculations about their split.
Waititi and Winstanley are reportedly separated for two years. Back in 2018, Waititi’s wife made a startling comment during an interview with New Zealand Herald. She said:
I’m just sick of women portrayed as living in the shadow of their partners, that’s all. I made one film with him, I was a film-maker before I met him and I continue to do my own stuff.
The couple who are both New Zealand natives and 44 years of age, share two children together; Te Hinekāhu, 7, and Matewa Kiritapu, 4.

Meanwhile, Waititi, who is set to direct Thor 4, seems to have moved on with his assistant from 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' (2016) and 'Thor: Ragnarok' (2017), Polly Stoker. The duo was spotted sitting together at the Oscars and BAFTAs. In addition, they were photographed attending an NBA game between LA Lakers and Brooklyn Nets on 10th March 2020.
