Sean Penn and Leila George are Officially Divorced

Sean Penn and Leila George were married for over two years: Complete story here!  

Sean Penn and Leila George's divorce was finalized on Friday, almost a year after George filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences." Penn, 61, and Leila, 30, got married during the pandemic in July 2020. When George filed to be legally separated from Sean, her papers read, " (their differences) led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the Parties to live together as husband and wife."  

Penn and his now ex-wife George had kept their marriage under wraps and only made their nuptial public during Penn's appearance on Late Night With Seth Mayers after a month. "It was a county commissioner on Zoom and we were at the house with my two children and her brother, and we did it that way," the Mystic River actor said about his pandemic wedding.

The two-time Academy-winning actor sparked dating rumors with the Australian actress at the beginning of 2016. The pair debuted as a couple at Film Independent's event at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art that year. During a conversation with Hollywood Authentic earlier this month, Penn confessed screwing up his marriage with George.

The Dead Man Walking actor said, "There's a woman who I'm so in love with, Leila George, who I only see on a day-to-day basis now because I f----- up the marriage. We were married technically for one year, but for five years, I was a very neglectful guy." Sean goes on to detail the ways he wrecked their relationship. "I was not a f------ cheat or any of that obvious s---, but I allowed myself to think that my place in so many other things was so important, and that included my place in being depressed and driven to alcohol," Sean confesses.   

Penn was previously married to actress Robin Wright.

This isn't Sean's first brief marriage. Before George, the daughter of actor/producer Vincent D'Onofrio, The Gunman star was married to Robin Wright, with whom he shares his two kids. The pair were in on-and-off marriage from April 1996 to July 2010. Penn's famous relationships also include his brief marriage with pop star Madonna. Sean also famously dated Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron before meeting George.
