After being together for more than 11 years Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, a Colombian singer and Gerard Piqué Bernabeu, a Spanish professional footballer, separated. On Saturday, June 4, 2022In a joint statement, the stars said, "We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect."

Shakira, 45 and Gerard, 35, confirmed their affairs in 2011. Spanish athletes currently playing for FC Barcelona met Hips Don't Lie, singer, in the spring of 2010, on the set of the music video for Shakira's song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as noted by USA Today.

The lovey-dovey couples welcomed their first son Milan on January 22, 2013, in Barcelona, Spain, where the family had taken up residence. Shakira welcomed her second baby boy Sasha on January 29, 2015. Forbes even listed the duo on the World's Most Powerful Couples list.

After Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira was asked why the duo did not walk down the aisle, she replied, "telling the truth, marriage scares the shit out of me. I don't want him to see me as his wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend. His lover, his girlfriend. It's like a little forbidden fruit, you know? I want to keep him on his toes. I want him to think that anything's possible depending on behaviour."
