The Mandalorian: Jon Favreau Explains Why People Fell for Baby Yoda
Baby Yoda is the best thing about The Mandalorian and Jon Favreau explains why people are falling in love with the character.
An amazing storm is sweeping fans away for a ride these past few weeks, and few expected the impact 'The Mandalorian' is having on everyone. When the show was announced to be launched simultaneously with the launch of Disney Plus, the new streaming service from Disney, the majority of people were thinking it just as a publicity stunt, and nothing good was going to come from it.
There was already fear people were getting tired of the Star Wars franchise, and 'The Mandalorian' was also thought to be another misstep from Kathleen Kennedy, who admitted she’s got no idea where the 'Star Wars' franchise is headed next.

But when the first episode premiered, fans were thoroughly surprised by the down to earth and mysterious nature of the story, coming from a franchise which is all about legacy and destiny. 'Mando' was a mysterious character in itself, and the beginning of the show just dumps us into the thick of things without giving much information of what is really happening.
It was the ending of the first episode which shocked people the most, the appearance of 'Baby Yoda' not only allowed the show to be shrouded in mystery but also gave hope to the fans we will finally be getting a look into the race of 'Yoda,' the Jedi master. For the longest time, people are searching for the origins of 'Yoda' and see how he was able to be a Jedi master.

But the whole thing about Yoda is a mystery, where he comes from, how he came to be one with force, hinted at in canon novels and movies, but never outright talked about. 'Baby Yoda' was, first thing, cute and second, came from a race, which is known for their prowess with force. The second episode with the child using force was another instance where the people were hopeful of finally getting some answers.
Jon Favreau also got some idea about why people fell in love with the little green alien, he said, “I think what's great about what George [Lucas] created is that Yoda proper, the character that we grew up watching, was always shrouded in mystery, and that was what made him so archetypal and so mythic. We know who he is based on his behavior and what he stands for, but we don't know a lot of details about where he comes from or his species. I think that's why people are so curious about this little one of the same species.”

First thing cute, the second thing, history is the reason why people are keen to learn more about 'Baby Yoda.' Even the way he plays and walks is adorable, and the director talked about using puppets for filming, “He's mostly a puppet, When it's CG, we try to make him obey the same physical laws that he would if he were a puppet. I think a lot of times, CG makes itself too obvious where you don't create parameters creatively that allow the character to keep the same identity and charm. We'll learn more about him over the course of the season.”
The Mandalorian was also said to be giving us an insight into how the First Order started in a slight connection with the sequel trilogy, which will end this holiday season with the release of 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' on 20 December 2019. 'The Mandalorian' is also getting ready for the final three episodes of the first season, and we already got confirmation the show will be returning for a second season, and 'Carl Weathers' will be back with a little back story in the second season of the beloved series.
