The Witcher is coming pretty soon with the first trailer for the much-awaited and criticized show debuting at the San Diego Comic-con in 2019. The trailer was met with mixed feelings, but overall, it was a well-liked first introduction of the beloved book and video game series. The eight-part series by creator Lauren Schmidt will feature Henry Cavill as 'Geralt of Rivia' whose hiring was talked about in ad nauseam, but another contentious hiring made for the series was Anya Chalotra as 'Yennefer'.

Anya is only 23 years old, and her hiring was much discussed by fans all over the world. Whether she can portray the role of Yennefer of Vengerberg is to be seen, but she is talented enough to give us confidence.

5. Anya Grew Up In The UK

Lower Penn village located in South Staffordshire was the place where Anya was raised by her parents alongside two other siblings. Born in Wolverhampton, England, Anya was sent to St. Dominic’s Grammar School for Girls where she completed her schooling and went on to join London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. From her time at the school, she learned her ways around the acting job, which shaped her later career.

Anya Chalotra as her name suggests is of Indian heritage, raised by Indian parents. Her parents were immigrants who migrated to the UK before Anya’s birth, and she became a naturalized citizen. Due to her parents, Anya follows Hindu traditions, and it was probably a difficult sell when her boyfriend was a Honduran journalist Juan F Sanchez. Though we’ve not seen her in traditional wears often, it is said she practices her religion and is proud of her heritage.

Yup! It may be confusing hearing 'Robin Loxley' being voiced by a woman, but it is the case for the new YouTube Originals show Sherwood. The modern retelling of the age-old fictional hero Robin Hood is headed for the animation route, and the new story follows Robin, voiced by Anya, as she joins a group of rebels to hack and battle Sheriff of Nottingham in the 23rd century London. The modern retelling of the story will change the gender of Robin and Anya is voicing the character. The animated series arrives on YouTube in 2019.

2. Anya Is An Accomplished Theatre Actor

Anya is the graduate of the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and she trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. For the TV-watching audience, not in Canada, it may seem like a fresh actor is playing the role of Yennefer but Anya’s name is on the billing of 14 different plays, and she is an accomplished theatre actor. Anya also worked on the 'Poirot' remake and the Canadian show 'Wanderlust', so the role of Yennefer seems to be in good hands.

Anya was a fresh face in terms of the worldwide audience of The Witcher, and her hiring as Yennefer, a love interest of Geralt was contentious hiring. First, the age gap between the two actors was criticized, and then her overall hiring was also criticized on the internet. The creator of the show defended the choice saying they chose everyone on their merits and appropriateness of playing the character. After the trailer was released, Anya’s hiring was justified because she was the standout performer in the trailer.
