Andy Baraghani is a Chef, someone who loves to eat and invent new cuisines for the people to enjoy. He is also the Senior Food Editor at Bon Appetit magazine, but the cooking enthusiast struggled for a long time to get where he is today.
Born on 27 November 1989, he was born to Iranian parents who moved to America before he was born, and from a young age, he needed to fend of bullies and people who went after him because of the way he looked. Now, at the age of 29, he is comfortable with his ethnicity and ancestry, but growing up, the whole thing was a struggle for Andy.
Andy was born Andisheh Baraghani, but due to the consistent difficulty of his teachers, he got them to call him Andy for everyone's comfort. From early years he wanted to be a cook, and soon, he was working in kitchens in his neighborhood. By the time he was done with high school, he worked in three restaurants, and it was working in the kitchen when he met his first gay chef and also started looking on kindly on his own identity.
Moving to New York, Coming Out and Falling in Love
When his schooling was done, the first order of business was to come out to his father. He told his father he likes men and not women, which was not taken in well at first, but his parents were also not angry with him. It takes some time to come to terms with something like the revelation, and they were fine with his choice after a while.
After coming out, he was living in New York and started working in the city. While in college, he met his first boyfriend, someone he fell in love with, and got involved in his first sexual encounter. The name of his first boyfriend was not revealed, but he said they were each other’s first boyfriends, and the relationship went well at first.
The thing is not all love is meant to go the distance, which was the case with the duo. They were together for a while and they thought their first love was going to last forever but it was not the case, instead the couple broke up and went their separate ways.
Getting His Dream Job and Focusing on His Second Love
Andy said the first love of his life is his mother, and the second love is cooking, which is what he focused on after his break up from the first relationship. He finished his college and started working in New York when the people he worked for at the Saveur said they were working in an Iranian piece for their magazine, and he was asked for his input, which was the reason he got a lot of recognition.
Andy was afraid the time was not right to talk about Iran when the relationship between Iran and the US was extrememly fragile but the piece was well received and he got a lot of calls from people who asked his input on things.
After the job, he was hired by Bon Appetit magazine, which he says is his dream job. About three years ago, he was hired by the magazine, and though he went through some difficulties starting out, this was what he was meant to do. Now, he is the Senior Food Editor for the magazine, and it seems all of his focus right now is on his work.
Since the first relationship, there isn’t a single rumor of the talented chef finding love with someone else. He is single and focused on his work; when love finds him, he will embrace it, but he’s got his mother and his love for cooking, and at this moment, it’s the only thing, which matters to Andy.
