Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver's Divorce Finalized After 10 Years Since their Split

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announced their split in 2011: Their divorce was finalized on December 28!   

The Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger's divorce from his estranged wife, Maria Shriver, television journalist, is finally official. The couple called quits over a decade ago when Arnold's unfaithfulness came to the surface. TMZ reports, the estranged couple's divorce was mediated by a private judge who signed the papers earlier this month. 

 It was because of Schwarzenegger and Shriver's complicated property dispute that their divorce remained unsettled for so long. Th duo dated for several years before tying the knots in 1986. They share four children, Katherine Schwarzenegger, Christina Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Christopher Schwarzenegger.

Arnold's infidelity came to light in 2011 when it was revealed that the actor had fathered a son, Joseph Baena, with the family's housekeeper. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family," the actor said at the time. He added, "There are no excuses, and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."

Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011 and released a statement, "This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy," Maria said. Despite not being together for over a decade, Arnold and Shriver share an amicable relationship. The former couple share one grandchild, Lyla Maria Pratt, who their daughter Katherine had with her husband, Chris Prat.   

Arnold is in a relationship with physical therapist Heather Milligan.

"It’s such a great and cool new role for both of them to be able to experience. Also, for me as their daughter to watch them in this new role is such a beautiful thing," Katherine writes in her book Gift of Forgiveness. The divorced couple will be grandparents for the second time as Pratt announced he and Katherine are expecting their second baby. Schwarzenegger started dating physical therapist Heather Milligan in 2013; the duo is still going strong in 2021. Shrivers is reportedly in a relationship with Matthew Dowd, a political analyst.
