Brazilian Footballer Neymar Published WhatsApp Messages And Photos Of Woman Who Accused Him Of Rape

Football star Neymar publishes photos and conversation on WhatsApp to omit his name from the rape allegations.

Football star Neymar is accused of rape, according to charges filed in Sao Paulo by an unidentified woman.

The woman alleges the event took place in Paris on May 15, 2019, at 8:20 pm local time. According to reports obtained by ESPN Brasil, the unidentified woman claimed Neymar flew her to Paris after their conversation on WhatsApp. She claims a Neymar representative, Gallo, bought her tickets to fly her to Paris and also put her up in a hotel room.

The reports filed on Friday also states Neymar came into the hotel room 'drunk' and they  "touched each other, but in a given moment, Neymar became aggressive and, with violence, had sexual intercourse against the victim's will."

According to the report, the unidentified woman left two days after the incident and didn't report it because she was shaken up. The Paris police also came out with a statement saying no reports of the alleged crime were filed in Paris.

After the allegations became public knowledge, Neymar released a 7-minute video showing the WhatsApp messages the two exchanged. The woman is seen to be half naked and there are no mentions of any forced sex after the alleged rape took place.

In the video, the famed superstar had this to say, "There was a relationship between a man and a woman between four walls. On the next day, nothing happened. I hope investigators read the messages and see what happened."

In the same video, Neymar said he fell in a trap that was designed to extort money from him and he would learn from this mistake.

Neymar's father and manager were afraid that the event might snowball so they decided to make the WhatsApp conversations public. Neymar da Silva Santos Sr. also stated the couple had consensual sex and all this allegation was just the way for the lawyer in Sao Paulo to extort money from the multimillionaire athlete.

Even though Neymar's family intended this release of WhatsApp messages to clear Neymar's name, this release has dropped him in another police probe. Since the release of the half-naked pictures of the woman was without the consent of the woman he may face one to five years in prison.

The cybercrime unit in Rio de Janeiro is currently investigating the release of the picture of the woman.

Neymar is having a string of bad lucks recently, he lost his national team captaincy to veteran right-back Dani Alves. Tite, the national team coach did not provide a reason but there were greater pressures to punish Neymar for his actions in PSG as well as bringing negative attention by his antics on the field, most notably his constant diving during the world cup.

Neymar who is currently in Brasil, preparing for the Copa America, is sidelined due to injuries and already missed two training sessions.

Though the rape accusation is serious there appears to be no evidence saying he raped the unidentified woman. The woman is supposed to go for a medical in Brasil. Although the WhatsApp messages may have quelled the investigation for now on the rape charges, Neymar did dig himself into a new problem by releasing the images without consent.
