He started his (PGA) golfing career in 2007. Gene finished 10th in the Assistant championship at Governors Towne Club in September 2007.

After his saddening death, a GoFundMe page was set up in his honor. The page has raised more than $700,000 from over 4k donors. Diane McPherson, the organizer of the page and a fellow member of Pinetree Club, stated that the money was being raised for Siller's family.

The golf pro is remembered as a man of compassion. A funeral for him was held on July 12. Siller had a wife, and two children, 6 and 7. Rand Eberhard, a local pastor who knew the late golfer, told CNN, "It's a big void that is left in our community to lose such an important guy."

CNN further reported the funeral was closed to the media; hence no details of the service are available. An insider reported Siller loved his wife and sons more than anything in the world. Siller's surviving wife's name was revealed as Ashley Bouknight Siller. The Georgia PGA asked the association and people to lend their support to Gene's family.

As per People, Cobb County police arrested a man named Bryan Anthony Rhoden in connection with the case. The police identified Rhoden's other victims as Paul Pierson and Henry Valdez. Rhoden was charged with three counts of murder and aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping.
