James Gunn was Offered a Superman Movie - He Chose to Direct Suicide Squad Instead

James Gunn was asked a question if he was offered to do a Superman movie, he gives his answer!

When a franchise is in limbo, the studio tends to do whatever in their power to get the money earner back on its feet, so instead of bleeding money on the development, the franchise brings in a little return on investment. Though the David Ayer helmed 'Suicide Squad' was a commercial success, the fans and the press did not give the movie any ground to stand on.

It was definitely one of the worst movies released that year, and the whole ending dance thing turned off the entire fan base. When will these makers learn, superhero movies and dancing rarely work out, just see what happened to 'Peter Quill' and 'Gamora,' they danced on their father’s house’s balcony, and now Gamora can’t remember a thing after 2014.

Suicide Squad was supposed to be the new way superhero movies were supposed to be made. The battle lines were drawn when David Ayer dug his own grave by calling out Marvel and dropping an F-bomb on their name. Well, in the end, the finished product was nowhere near what David claimed it would be, and the movie was a pile of crap.

Money making is one thing, but if your core audience likes two out of the plethora of characters on display and the people who were supposed to defend you, run for the hills or bury you six feet deep, then you know there’s a problem. Warner Bros. realized they needed to get some fresh ideas into the DC stable and reenergize the franchise a little.

After much deliberation, it was decided the movie was going to be rebooted but who would want to take the film in the first place. Right then, as an answer to their prayers, Disney let themselves be bullied and fired James Gunn after some tweets he made years ago, which were jokes, but still, it is what it is.

James Gunn was in the midst of creating a third Guardians movie, and instead, he was scooped up by Warner Bros. after the firing incident. The director was given the whole catalog of characters to choose from at Warner Bros., and during a Q&A session held recently, the director was asked if he was ever given a chance to direct a Superman movie.

The director replied, “As has been reported many times, DC offered me whatever film I wanted to do, including some sort of Superman movie (not specifically Man of Steel 2 as I've seen reported)," Gunn wrote to a fan. I chose The Suicide Squadbecause it's one of my favorite properties in the world. It's the story I wanted to tell more than any other.”

It seems James was offered a Superman movie, but he elected to reboot the Suicide Squad film. It is a peculiar choice, but considering this is the same director who made Guardians of the Galaxy movies, so it is probably not as peculiar in his case.

Suicide Squad is still being worked on as the director recently revealed he finished working with John Cena on the film. Suicide Squad will arrive in theatres on 6 August 2021, and before you leave, make sure to visit Glamour Fame to be in the know of all the happenings in the world of show business.
