Kirk Herbstreit was the starting QB for the Buckeyes when Allison Butler was cheering on the team as a member of the Ohio State cheerleading squad. Allison and Kirk met for the first time in college, and they’ve been together ever since.
After dating for about four years, Kirk popped the question, and the beautiful couple got married in 1998. Soon after the duo got married, they were looking to start a family which they did in 2000, about two years after Allison walked down the aisle and the lovebirds shared their vows.

Two years after the couple got married, Allison was pregnant with their first child. Instead of one child, Kirk and Allison were blessed with twins. The married couple was ecstatic about the arrival of their children, but not everything went according to the plan for Kirk and his wife.
Allison went for a routine checkup after about 20 weeks of pregnancy when the doctor found some complications. Their babies were going to born premature, and giving them the possibility of survival, the doctor ordered Allison to stay in the hospital with complete bed rest.

Kirk said Allison, through sheer determination and will, caused the babies to stay in for another eight weeks when she could not take it anymore. The kids were born about ten weeks premature, and Kirk said their sons were so tiny he could probably fit his wedding ring up past their knees.
After intensive care and some miracle, Tye Herbstreit and Jake Herbstreit were able to pull through and are now carrying on the family tradition of playing in the College Football level. Two years after Tye and Jake, their third son Zak Herbstreit was born in 2002, and four years later, the couple’s fourth and final son Chase Herbstreit was born in 2006.

Kirk Herbstreit spent some time with his alma-mater Ohio State after his playing days were over, but then he went into a job at a radio station and later working as an analyst for various sports networks. Soon, he became the go-to guy for the information of College Football, and while working as an analyst, he was not so kind towards his alma mater.
Ohio State Buckeyes fans took exception to the fact one of their own was criticizing them on national television. Kirk was giving his honest opinions, but vitriolic fans were making life difficult for Kirk and his family.

Kirk said there were cars passing his house daily, stopping near his porch and driving off, but things took an even darker turn when a publication gave away Kirk’s home address and also pointed it out in a google map.

This was too much, and after his wife Allison called him crying, the family moved from Ohio to their new home in Tennessee.

Coming from a lifelong Ohio Buckeyes fans, Kirk Herbstreit and all his sons were the fans of the team. Allison Butler was a former cheerleader for the team, and she knew where her loyalty lay, but ass the kids grew older, and the twins were off to college, they chose to go to Clemson.
Tye and Jack were provided a team roster on Clemson, so they joined the college while the two younger brothers were die-hard Ohio State fans. The family feud came to a head in December when Ohio and Clemson met during the College Football semifinals.
The younger brothers sat in the Ohio State area while the older brothers were on the field, Kirk was commentating on the game, and with a heavy heart, Allison was wearing Clemson gear to support her two older sons. When it comes to football, Herbstreit family is a house divided.
