Before the game started, the coach of LSU told Steve his daughter-in-law died in a plane crash, but the OC of LSU still took the field and won the game for his daughter-in-law, Carley McCord.

Carley McCord was the wife of Steve Ensminger’s son Steve Ensminger Jr., and she was on a small plane to Atlanta, where she was going to be with her family to watch LSU Tigers take on the Oklahoma Sooners and support her father-in-law. Instead, the plane crashed about a mile before arriving at the airport, and the news of the death filtered to the coach, who was the firm voice to inform his son of the heartbreaking incident.

Carley McCord was a reporter for WDSU, and she was also a pre-game presenter and reporter at the New Orleans games, both the Pelicans and Saints. Carley and her husband were meant to be together as the couple found love with one another and also realized they shared the same birthday. After Carley and Steve Jr. became a couple, the lovely duo celebrated their birthdays on the same day on 25 July.

In 2018, Carley shared a post on her Instagram page, making fun of the fact her husband turned 30. She captioned the celebratory picture with, “Ten years ago you were celebrating your 21st birthday. Feel old yet, @stevenensminger7?! I love sharing this day with you! Happy birthday, birthday twin.”

Before she was even married to Steve Ensminger’s son, Carley shared a playful bond with the father of her husband. Steve Ensminger Jr. said in a text interview with Sports Illustrated, Carley used to carry friendly tussle with her father, who was also teasing her all the time.

Carley used to tell her father-in-law, her Demons were coming for LSU in college football, and they kept up their friendly banter all the time. Steve Ensminger loved his daughter-in-law, and the emotion of the coach showed after the game.

According to her husband Steve Jr., Carley used to wake up each day at 4 am and teach children in China how to speak English. A kind-hearted person whose loss will be felt not only in the family but the lives she touched over the years.

2. Carley Took the Plane to Atlanta because Her Husband Steve Ensminger Jr. was not able to Take Time Off Work and Drive Her to Atlanta

Steve Ensminger Jr. was supposed to drive his wife to Atlanta for the game, but a policy at his job, which said no employee was able to take a vacation after 22 December, resulted in his not being able to get off work. Carley McCord did not have any other route to Atlanta when she was offered a seat by Gretchen Vincent on the plane.

Steve Jr. was at work in Mississippi River, where his phone was not with him, and he missed the texts and calls by his wife. She wrote to him, she loved him, before boarding the plane and after the crash, Steve Jr. was also rushed to hospital when he found out about the crash.

In the same interview, the heartbroken husband of Carley McCord said, “I can remember laying in the hospital bed repeating myself saying it wasn’t real and then one of the hardest things I’m dealing with is that I missed her text and I missed her call. It is by far the most pain, angst, and terror and just darkest time of my life, and I honestly don’t know how long it will last because I still don’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it.”
