After four days in intensive care, Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, at the age of 60. Her death was confirmed by her daughter, Billie. Later reports from the Los Angeles County coroner's office mentioned sleep apnea and fatty tissue buildup on artery walls as contributing factors.

The day after Fisher's passing, her mother, Debbie Reynolds, suffered a stroke and passed away. Both Fisher and Reynolds were honored with a joint private memorial service, and Fisher's ashes were laid to rest beside her mother at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
