Lauren Ridloff is Marvel Universe's first deaf super-hero. Starring alongside actors like Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, and more, Ridloff played a super-hero named Makkari in the MCU's Eternals. Lauren's casting in the film is a milestone in the actress's career and a big stride for inclusion in the industry.  

Ridloff was born on April 6, 1978, in Chicago, Illinois, to an artist and a university counselor. She was born deaf to hearing parents, but the impairment didn't stop Lauren from dreaming big. After completing her high school education in a school for deaf students, Ridloff graduated with a major in English and creative writing from California State University. The actress is married to a deaf artist, and the couple is blessed with sons, both deaf.

Lauren came across her future husband, Douglas Ridloff, also deaf, while attending California State University, an institution with a large deaf population. Later, they ran into each other in New York again, and the chemistry between the two hit off. Lauren confesses she was going through a slow breakup with a boyfriend when Douglas came into her life.

While living a thriving relationship with Douglas, Lauren also continued to strike big in her career. She won the National Association of the Deaf's Miss Deaf America pageant in 2000. Ridloff graduated with a Masters in Education from Hunter College in 2005, and a year later, she married Douglas.

Lauren was working at a public school in Manhattan as a teacher when she and Douglas were blessed with two sons, Levi Sol Ridloff and Wyatt Che Ridloff, both deaf. She left her post at the school to cater to her children with special needs. The family of three currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

When the Eternals actress is not promoting her work on Instagram, @Laurenridloff, she is showing off her talented husband to her fans. The star recently graced the Eternals screening along with her hubby. Douglas isn't a mainstay in Hollywood, but he isn't completely unrelated to the industry either.

Douglas is a poet, storyteller, and the founder of ASL SLAM, a non-profit organization. As per his IMDb, Douglas has credit as an American sign language coach on an episode of Saturday Night Live and has also worked on John Krasinski's horror masterclass, The Quiet Place, The Quite Place 2, and Only Murders in the Building, as an ASL coach.

Not to everyone's surprise's the father of two has a credit in Eternals as well.  He reportedly taught sign language to the cast of Eternals. Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo in the movie, said, "Lauren and Douglas taught us a lot. I'd text Douglas, and he would send me videos of himself signing each word."
