But the rise to fame at an early age also resulted in the actress getting body shamed, something she said hounded her all her life.
Body shaming was prevalent from probably the dawn of time, fat and obese people are slow and lack endurance, and there are not many things an obese person can effectively do. The actress was not overweight, but she was pressured by the press and producers all the time to practice some kind of weight loss program.

From a young age, the actress was constantly commented on for the way she looked, and this made her self-conscious, and at the age of ten, she started dieting which came to a head when the actress was asked to drop her weight by 10 pounds if her show was to be picked up.
A 14-year-old girl was asked for weight loss, and the actress said she felt like she was already slim. Marie said, "By the time I was 14, we did the pilot for the 'Donny & Marie' variety show, and I was down to about 110 pounds and feeling really thin. Shortly after that, I was taken out into a parking lot by producers and told that if I didn't lose more weight, the show would be canceled. So I went from about 110 pounds to 93 pounds, which was absolutely stupid."
This carried on from her teenage to her adult life as the actress said she was taking diet pills and fasting to the point she was bulimic. It was a nasty situation she was in, and everything stemmed from being fat-shamed when she was only 14 years old.
