Comedian Martin Lawrence Has Been Married Twice: Who is He Currently Married to?

Once one of the most loved comics in the industry, Martin Lawrence is now hardly seen or heard. Best recalled and loved for starring alongside Will Smith in the buddy cop action franchise Bad Boys, Lawrence and his colleague Smith once ruled the comedy flicks. While Lawrence's career suffered a meltdown decades ago after reports of sexual misconduct and erratic behavior on his part, Smith's rep has taken a hard hit after the infamous Oscar slap.  

Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence was born on April 16, 1965, in Frankfurt, West Germany, where his military father was posted. The actor spent his childhood in Maryland, Washington, D.C. His early credits include Star Search, What's Happening Now!!, and Do the Right Thing. Lawrence has been married twice and has three children.  

Is Martin Lawrence Married?  

The Bad Boys star has had two failed marriages, but the actor remains resolute in finding love. Lawrence is currently engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Roberta Moradfa, 16 years younger than Lawrence and a star in her own right. Founder of EFFACÉ Aesthetics, Roberta is also an expert Aesthetics Nurse Injector and a thriving entrepreneur. The pair's love story, however, is a tightly wrapped affair.   

Source tells Lawrence and Moradfa dated for a while before the stand-up comedian popped the question to his lady love in April 2017. We haven't heard of the twosome's wedding plans or any updates on their relationship since then. "And I said "YES," Roberta wrote while sharing a snippet of her huge rock. The entrepreneur added the engagement "marks a huge milestone in my life."

It will be a very long engagement, or the pair has already called it quits. Insider then reported that Lawrence had spent months planning the proposal and making sure he presented Roberta with the most exquisite engagement ring. Moradfa's ring was custom-made by Iconic Jewels and had the couple's initials engraved. It reportedly cost Lawrence striking $500,000.  

While it is unknown if this will be Roberta's first marriage, the Martin alum will be walking down the aisle for the third time. Despite making several public appearances, including on Red carpets, at NBA games, and at February Vanity Fair Oscar party, the pair have weirdly kept their relationship low. They say the third time's the charm, and hopefully, we'll get to witness the Bad Boys alum fulfilling the adage.  

Meet Martin Lawrence's ex-wives!  

Martin Lawrence has romanced his share of beautiful women, but the actor's longest relationship was with his last ex-wife Shamicka Gibbs, with whom he enjoyed a 15-year of companionship. 

Following the end of his first marriage, the comedian started dating Gibbs, a TV personality, in 1997. The pair tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony on July 10, 2010, at Lawrence's luxe home in Beverly Hills.   

During their 15-year-long together, the twosome welcomed two daughters, Iyanna Faith, born on November 9, 2000, and Amara Trinity, born on August 20, 2002. The Do the Right Thing star filed for divorce from Gibbs in April 2012. 

Citing irreconcilable differences, the comedian assured he and Gibbs were splitting ways amicably and requested joint custody of their daughters. "Martin and Shamicka Lawrence have decided to divorce," the former pair's representative said in a statement.

The spokesperson, Gibbs, added, "Out of love and respect for one another, we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together."

The actor/comedian first dived into marital life with Miss Virginia USA winner Patricia Southall, with whom he shares a 26-year-old daughter Jasmine Page. The comedian's first ex-wife has since been married to NFL champion Emmitt Smith. Lawrence was briefly engaged to actress Lark Voorhies in 1993. 

Who are Martin Lawrence's Children?  

The Big Momma House alum is a proud dad to three grown daughters, Jasmin, Iyanna, and Amara. Lawrence's eldest, Jasmin, is an aspiring actress. Based in LA, Jasmin has amassed a few acting credits, including in Bad Boys for Life and Relatively Famous: Ranch Rules and Family Time. She graduated from Duke University in 2018, and Lawrence couldn't be happier.

The proud father took to his Instagram to celebrate his daughter's milestone and wrote, "Congrats to my 1st born. I'm so proud of you Jasmin. Keep doing your thing. I love you so much." Jasmin is perhaps best known for romancing comedian Eddie Murphy's son, Eric Murphy. The iconic comic's kids went public with their relationship in 2021.  

Martin's second-born, Iyanna, is enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where she is pursuing a degree in creative writing. "Your father @martinlawrence and I are so proud of the young woman you have become. We know that you are in God's hands," Iyanna's mother, Gibbs, wrote while sharing a snap of her and Martin dropping their daughter at college.

Lawrence's youngest, Amara, is undoubtedly the most loved being the youngest. Amara is an aspiring singer and songwriter and has released two original songs on Soundcloud. "I'm so blessed to say that I was raised by such a humble and loving person who has always tried to do the best he could," Amara wrote in a tribute to her father.
