Maurice Benard is a Father to Four Children: The Actor Adopted His Wife's Younger Sister!  

Best known from ABC soap opera General Hospital, Maurice Benard captivated many hearts playing the manic depressive Sonny Corinthos. His other credits include All My Children, Dark Justice, DEA, and To Face her Past. Benard took home several Daytime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Sonny. The actor also boasts three Soap Opera Digest Awards in the outstanding lead actor category.   

Born on March 1, 1963, in San Francisco, Benard was born to Martha, a bank team member, and Humberto Morales, a bakery superintendent. He ventured into acting as Nico in the 1980s soap opera, All My Children. Happily married to his wife of over three decades, Benard is a doting father to four.  

Maurice Benard Loves His Children More Than His Work!  

Maurice Benard and his wife, Paula Smith, whom he married on August 11, 1990, share three biological children. Benard and his loving spouse, Paula, named their children Cailey Sofia, Cassidy Rose, and Joshua James. Benard and Paula's loving home was completed when they took in Heather Rose, Paula's younger sister.   

According to People, the couple decided to legally adopt Heather when her mother, Benard's mother-in-law, died. They have since provided Heather, two years older than their oldest daughter Cailey, with a safe and affectionate environment. Heather was 15 when her mother passed away.

On his Instagram, @mauricebenard, the actor posted a video of his only son, Joshua, singing Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love; Benard joins his son in the song. The heartwarming duet is just one clip in Benard's memento of posts; that seems largely dedicated to his family.   

In an old People magazine interview, Benard shares how much he adores his family.

"It's great, I just love being home with my family. I don't want to come to work," said Maurice. He further adds, "I just want to be there with my family and take the sun in; it's what life is about."

The soap opera vet has no qualms when it comes to expressing his love for family. Aside from his children, Benard is also a grandpa. Maurice welcomed two grandchildren in recent years.

The General Hospital star shared a piece of gleeful news last year. Taking to his Instagram, he announced his oldest daughter, Heather, and her husband, Phil Anderson, were set to become parents for the first time. "Miracles do happen," wrote the actor. 

Benard later invited Heather to join him in his week's state of mind episode. The 58-year-old actor also runs a YouTube channel, State of Mind. Besides portraying his life through time, Maurice uses the platform to discuss mental health every Sunday.

Maurice reveals he had been anxiously awaiting the birth of his granddaughter. Eloise Rose Anderson was born in the fall of 2020. Sharing his first picture with the lovely newborn, Maurice captioned, "Someone told me life doesn't start till you have a granddaughter, thank you, Eloise for kickstarting my life."
