Mr. Nancy Actor Orlando Jones was Fired from American Gods Season 3: His Character "Wrong Message for Black America"
American Gods actor Orlando Jones was not happy with his firing from the show and he went in one the season 3 showrunner of the show for the way he was fired from the series.
'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman is one of the best fiction/fantasy books we’ve read in a long time, and the show on Starz also started out well, similar to the book. But unlike the masterpiece on the page, the series started to wane off, it was watchable, but the trouble behind the scene was showing on the screen as well.
After the quiet good first season, the show went through some reshuffling behind the scene as original creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green were fired after the two clashed heads with the people at Fremantle over the production budget of the show and the creative direction they wanted to take the series.

The two creators were fired after they could not find common grounds, and then Jesse Alexander was hired to be the showrunner of 'American Gods.' Again the massive hands of Fremantle came down on Alexander, who was sidelined during the final stage of the production of season 2, and after the end of the season, the showrunner was replaced by Charles “Chic” Eglee.
'American Gods' went through three different changes in the three years, and now the show is in hot water again after the firing of actor Orlando Jones, who played the character of Mr. Nancy in the show. The actor wrote on Twitter, “I know ya’ll have LOTS of questions about the firing. As always I promise to tell you the truth and nothing but.”
Then the actor went on to explain the reason he was fired from the show. He said, “The new Season 3 showrunner is Connecticut-born and Yale-educated, so he’s very smart, and he thinks that Mr. Nancy’s angry, get s— done is the wrong message for black America. That’s right, this white man sits in that decision-making chair, and I’m sure he has many black BFFs that are his advisers and made it clear to him that if they did not get rid of that angry god Mr. Nancy, he’d start a Denmark Vesey uprising in the country.”
The showrunner did not respond to the allegation, the reason for the firing given by the actor, but the channel was quick to claim how non-racist they all are. “The storylines of ‘American Gods’ have continually shifted and evolved to reflect the complex mythology of the source material,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Mr. Jones’ option was not picked up because Mr. Nancy, among other characters, is not featured in the portion of the book we are focusing on within season three.”
Mr. Nancy is said to be not important for the third season of American Gods.

The statement continued, “Several new characters, many of which have already been announced, will be introduced into Shadow Moon’s world that will further contribute to the show’s legacy as one of the most diverse series on television.” Well, no one will ever know the real reason for the firing, and both sides can insinuate whatever they want, but nothing will come off it, unless there is proof of wrongdoing during the firing.

Mr. Nancy will be missed in the third season of American Gods, and the actor is also going to miss the fans and the people he worked with before Mr. Eglee arrived. The actor said to the fans, “Really, this is about you. I hope you loved it as much as I loved doing it.” He also thanked the former showrunners and also the writer of the book Neil Gaiman for the opportunity to play the character.
