Josh Boone confirms his version of The New Mutants is being released by Disney in April of 2020.
The enigma of the decade of the 2010s when it comes to major studio releases is 'The New Mutants' film. The 20th Century flick was all the buzz in 2017 when the creators of the movie showed up at the comic con and released the trailer. The edgy feel to the whole thing was what won over most people in the Hall and later the world when the trailer was released.
But as the release date for the flick was nearing in April 2018, the movie was postponed with the director and the producers feeling the film needed to be scarier, and they needed to add some horror elements. Well, the movie was delayed form his original release slate, and it all went downhill from thereon.

The new release date for the movie was on 22 February 2019, but Fox soon vacated the place after 'Deadpool 2' was placed a week early. The film was again pushed back from the August release date to make room for another 'X-Men' movie, 'Dark Phoenix.' Then, Disney swooped in to buy the whole 20th Century Fox movie studio.
All the projects after 'Dark Phoenix' were put under review and the movies already with release dates, carried on as they were. But 'The New Mutants' film was in disarray; 'Dark Phoenix' showed X-Men franchise is not as reliable as they were supposedly made out to be, and there was less of an appetite for new experimental X-Men movie.

'The New Mutants' film was put on hold for a while so Disney could conduct their own review for the film and see if they were going to release it or not. Well, Disney seems to be confident with the product in their hand as they slapped a 3 April 2020 release date on the film. Almost two years after the film was supposed to be released in the first place.
There was some fear the movie would be retooled to fit the MCU mold, but the director revealed during a correspondence on his Instagram comment section about how Disney is not asking for any reshoots and taking the movie as it is. The director also revealed the film would be released as he intended to do in 2018.

Josh Boone replied to a question about the vision and the direction of the upcoming Disney release and whether it will be as the director intended in the first place. The director replied, “I wouldn't be promoting it here if it wasn't.” The director seems to be happy with the direction being taken by the studio and the final cut of the film, which is why he is promoting the movie on his Instagram.
