Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss are coming back for The Matrix 4 and Lilly Wachowski is directing.
Strike while the iron’s hot, or it is the metaphor everyone should aspire to, it seems Warner Bros. subscribe to the same idea, or it is evident by the fact the studio is moving ahead with the much-discussed fourth movie in the Matrix saga.
There were rumors for years when it comes to the fourth movie in the Matrix franchise, whether it was happening or not. We were hearing due to some production rights issue the franchise was not moving forward, but Keanu Reeves' success and people going gaga over the 54-year-old actor in 2019 seems to light a fire under the ass of the top brass of Warner Bros. Finally, they cleared the issue and the movie is a go.
Keanu Reeves is returning as 'Neo', and Carrie Ann Moss is also making her way back to the fan-favorite role of 'Trinity' with Lana Wachowski coming back to write and direct the fourth installment in the cult-favorite saga. Lana wrote and directed the first three films with her sister Lilly back in 1999, and she spoke of the excitement coming back to the franchise which for all intents and purposes started their careers.
After the confirmation of the fourth movie came, Lana said, “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
Warner Bros. is producing the movie along with Village Roadshow Pictures who will produce and distribute the film globally. Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow previously made almost all of the Wachowski’s projects, and Toby Emmerich, the chairman of the Warner Bros. Picture Group, was excited with the possibility of working on the project again with the talented Wachowski sibling.
Toby Emmerich said, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing, and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
Lana will not be alone writing for the movie professional book writers Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell are joining the talented director for the writing gig. She will also be producing the movie with her producing company Grant Hill, and according to the sources the film is currently eyeing early 2020 production date.
Keanu is currently working on Bill & Ted Face the Music where he is sporting a new look, and it seems Keanu will move on to 'John Wick 4' next and then head on over to The Matrix.
Warner Bros. did make the announcement, but one person was missing from the studio’s press release. The studio missed out the name of Laurence Fishburne who played the fan-favorite 'Morpheus' in the Matrix trilogy, and studio insider is saying they are looking at younger actors to fill the role of Morpheus which is not going to go down well with the fans.
