Music Is an Important Part Of Guardians Of The Galaxy And James Gunn Reveals The Most Requested Song For The Film
James Gunn reveals the most requested song by fans and why he will never use it in the upcoming Guardians movie.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was an experiment on the part of Disney to see how far they can push their universe and make the audience accept it. The unique thing the studio did with the movie was allowed music to drive the narrative of the story and let the music speak the emotions the characters are going through and not get bogged down by trying to build a world with dialogues.
Guardians was a success with fans because of the offbeat team but also the way music was incorporated into the film, the same way Quentin Tarantino does when it comes to allowing music to convey the message of the emotional or fun beat. The first time we see adult 'Peter Quill' was followed by Redbone’s hit song 'Come and Get Your Love' and the whole movie was filled with licensed songs from some of the greatest bands of the 70s and 80s.

The first Guardians movie made over $770 million at the box office and the 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)' appeared at the top of the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Platinum by RIAA. So, you know people took to the music of the movie, and the fans of the series were not only fan for the film but also the impact music made on the story of the film.
James Gunn, the director of the first two movies, was fired from the series and later rehired after backlash from fans, said there are more than enough people asking him to include various songs. The director said ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ is the most requested song by fans for the new movie.

Though fans want the song to be in the movie, James, on the other hand, said he is not going to use the song in the film because the song would be all too predictable when it comes to the placement and the impact to the story.
“I'm asked to include this song BY FAR more than any other,” James Gunn revealed on Twitter. “And this predictability is precisely why I'd never use it. In general, I'd rather be in the business of giving folks the thing they want that they don't know they want rather than just the thing they know they want.”
Though ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ is the fan-favorite choice, there are numerous other songs, and artist fans want to hear incorporated into the movie. “But there are LOTS of songs,” James wrote on Twitter. “I’ve wanted to find a space for and haven’t been able to. Hundreds. I’ve tried numerous @AliceCooper, @Queen, T. Rex & Stevie Wonder songs, for instance, but I just never found the perfect fit. Same with @halloates “She’s Gone” on Vol 2.”
Music is always an essential part of the director trying to express his feelings in the movie, and he fielded some fan queries whether the next film he is directing for Warner Bros., the sequel to Suicide Squad will use music heavily. The director said, the movie will feature music to the extreme, and he also went on to add the direction and the sound along with the feel will differ drastically from the Guardians movie.
Gunn is currently busy with the filming of the Suicide Squad movie, and the hiring was the result of Disney firing the director after his past tweets were unearthed by right-wing groups to discredit one of the vocal opposers of the Republican party.

Suicide Squad is currently scheduled for release in 2021, and then the director is set to move into Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after he finishes filming the DC film. Guardians were supposed to be in Phase 4 of the MCU, but after the whole firing debacle and Gunn’s commitment to direct the DC flick the Guardians movie was moved into deep Phase 5.
