Cate Blanchett teases her Return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Will Clash with Natalie Portman?
Natalie Portman is coming back to the Thor franchise and it seems the announcement spurred Cate Blanchett into action.
Thor was a weird character present in The Avengers, Captain America was made fun of, but people didn’t know what to make of Thor. Captain America was out of place but the way Thor was portrayed in two of his movies and in the first two Avengers movies, it felt like he was a parody of a Shakespearian character.
It all changed though in 2017 when Taika Waititi took over the Thor franchise, Taika was a comedy director and actor, and he was given the reign of one of the most troubled franchises of the MCU. Taika turned the series around and gave Thor a new lease of life as a broken but aware character. The amazing thing why Thor Ragnarok worked was because of the villain 'Hela' portrayed by Cate Blanchett.

Cate was a great villain when Marvel is known for not bringing good villains to the forefront. She was the sister of Thor, and the dynamic of the relationship wasn’t particularly explored in the third Thor outing. The two characters were separated by galaxies, and they only met for the second time during the battle of Asgard.
Cate’s character Hela, wreaked havoc and destroyed Asgard and exiled Thor and Loki but she finally met her end during the final battle of the film when 'Surtur' visibly throws a huge sword through her body.

But according to the actress, she may not be done with the character with Natalie Portman coming back to play female Thor. The announcement of female Thor was made during the 2019 SDCC where Kevin Feige talked about the future of MCU and introduced Taika, and he introduced Natalie and gave her Thor’s hammer.
The two time Oscars winner was recently asked about the decision of Marvel to bring back Natalie and give her the role of the much-beloved female Thor in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. While promoting her new movie with Richard Linklater, 'Where’d You Go, Bernadette', Cate said, “I'm so, so excited. I'm so looking forward to seeing it because I absolutely loved seeing them all with my kids. But I really, really loved Captain Marvel. No offense, Taika, but it was probably my favorite.”

The Black Widow herself said the future of the MCU is female and it sure looks like it. Cate also said she credits the executive at Marvel, Victoria Alonso, for making the cinematic Universe more feminized. “She has been an incredible advocate for feminizing that universe. It's right and true that those franchises should be actually cutting-edge because that's traditionally what [comics] have done," Cate said. “To know that Natalie is going to have such a pivotal role is really exciting."
The actress was asked if she will be back to play the character again in the MCU, and Cate replied, “That's probably a Marvel question.” Taika probably needs to think a way of bringing her back for Thor: Love and Thunder. Even though the actress doesn’t think she is coming back, she still left the door open and teased the fans with, “I'm here..."

Marvel Phase four is starting with the Black Widow movie and ending with Thor: Love and Thunder so there is still about three years of time, but the actors are already heading to Australia to film the movie so it is about high time Taika wrote Cate into the movie. We all want her back, it probably won’t happen, but we can hope, can’t we?
