Doctor Strange 2: Possible Return Of A Dead Avenger And Marvel's Top Contender For Nightmare

Rumors suggest a dead Avenger, a dead master are coming back to the MCU and the actor for Nightmare is almost confirmed.

One of the most interesting parts of the upcoming Phase 4 of the MCU is going to be the thorough introduction of the Multiverse in the MCU for the first time in the movie, 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. The announcement was met with rapturous applause and open arms at this year’s comic con and people were more than excited to see what they are going to do with the what was said to be the first horror movie in the MCU.

Now the stories are leaking out, and there is a growing sense of idea where the series is headed next. One of the sources-less claims coming out from the world of fandom is the possible return of a dead Avenger. We already know Benedict Cumberbatch, and Benedict Wong are returning to the series as well as Rachel McAdams, and we also got confirmation 'Wanda' is joining Doctor Strange in the movie in what is said to be an interconnected universe between WandaVision TV show on Disney Plus and the movie coming in late 2021.

But according to “leaks” and fan theories, Wanda’s brother 'Pietro Maximoff' is also joining the series. The thing is, as most people know, Pietro died at the end of 'Avengers Age of Ultron', and now there are claims the character will make a small appearance in the upcoming movie. The other person rumored to be coming back to the series is Tilda Swinton’s 'Ancient One'.

'Quicksilver' coming back from the dead in the movie makes sense, one, he is the brother of Wanda and considering the word coming out from D23 about the show on Disney Plus being based on the comic series where Wanda loses her mind and creates whole another reality for herself after the loss of her brother, and 'Vision' is too much to bear.

The whole title of the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel is about the Multiverse which means the movie will pull of some shenanigans with the time rift continuum and we might even meet other versions of the past characters which are pretty fun to know. But one character who can return to the series without a hitch is the Ancient One, she was the mentor of Strange in the first movie, and maybe she will come to help out the Sorcerer Supreme in his time of need.

Marvel already got Tilda Swinton to come back to the MCU once after her death in the first Doctor Strange movie, so this is not a far-fetched idea for the actress to return to the role once more to help the best of the sorcerers.

But there was also another speculation along with the “leak” on 4Chan which said the studio already keyed in on the actor who will play the villain in the upcoming sophomore outing of Doctor Strange. We reported the villain for the movie would be Nightmare, the ruler of the Dream Dimension, the first nemesis of Doctor Strange and now according to the speculations making the rounds of the internet the person Marvel is eyeing to play the complex character of Nightmare is David Tennant.

If true, this would undoubtedly be a great casting, and the role would suit the British actor perfectly. When it comes to David Tennant, we’ve got a real soft spot for the actor because along with Matt Smith, he is our favorite Doctor in the beloved series Doctor Who. Also, he was awesome in 'Broadchurch', and we already saw the actor play a villain to perfection in the once acclaimed series, 'Jessica Jones'. The actor played the villain 'Kilgrave' in the acclaimed first season of 'Jessica Jones', and even though there may be some continuation problems considering both characters and Marvel’s property, David does seem to be the person best suited for the role of Nightmare.

These are all speculations, and Marvel didn’t confirm any of these “leaks” neither they are going to do in the future. We will most likely need to wait until the trailer of the movie to come out before confirming any of these speculations. Though the hiring of an actor for Nightmare will probably happen fairly soon, which will clear up whether David is playing the character or not.
